Malaga Weather, When to Go and Climate Information

Malaga coastal viewThe climate in Malaga is typically Mediterranean, meaning that the summer weather is fairly hot and the winters and generally mild and on the dry side. Malaga is an appealing tourist destination and with year-round sunshine and peasant weather, the Costa del Sol certainly has much to offer.

Spring

Malaga's spring weather and climate is amongst the most unpredictable, although temperatures remain well above 15°C / 59°F between February to April, rising to 22°C / 72°F in May. Heavy showers and downpours and not uncommon during the spring months in Malaga, although the skies usually clear soon after.

Summer

With an exceptional coastline and many beautiful sandy beaches, Malaga's sunny weather and warm climate means that sunbathing is possible from the May, right up to September, or even early October. During the summer months in Malaga, raining weather is infrequent and temperatures average around 27°C / 81°F, peaking at more than 30°C / 86°F between July and August. Even during the sunniest weather, temperatures in Malaga seldom exceed 35°C / 95°F. Most evenings and nights in Malaga are generally mild, although a light jacket or jumper is often needed on cooler nights. Malaga's summer climate does not tend to be particularly humid and so even during the hottest weather, the heat is quite comfortable and does not feel 'sticky' or oppressive.

Autumn / Fall

Although autumn brings many fine days, October and November can feature some intermittent rainy weather, often followed by a mixture of clouds and sunshine. Autumn temperatures remain mild and many people choose to visit Malaga at this time of the year, to take advantage of the fine weather and the reduced numbers. Temperatures in late September average around 27°C / 81°F, falling to 20°C / 68°F in late October and November.

Winter

Protected by a mountainous region and warm coastlines, winter temperatures in Malaga, between November to January, hover around 16°C / 61°F. Although the weather and climate in Malaga is still fairly mild during the winter months, additional clothing is required and evenings become much colder. Windy weather, overcast skies and heavy rain can result in temperatures quickly falling, although Malaga's winter months also offer many sunny days.
